Beachfront Snorkeling Business card

Welcome to Beachfront Snorkeling!

The first time I ever went snorkeling was in the intercoastal in Florida and it was incredible - the fish, the reefs, the starfish I was afraid to touch.  Snorkeling is still the most Zen-like experience I've ever had.  Whenever I go near the ocean, I always take my snorkeling gear.

Like you, I prepare for those trips by surfing the WWW looking for information on where to go.  Unfortunately, most of the web sites we find are devoted to SCUBA or commercial dive shops advertising equipment, travel or dive trips.  What we need is information on where to go and how to get there on our own.  It's hard to plan a snorkeling vacation with what we find, so I decided to create my own.

Bookmark us or (hit Ctrl/D) and check back every month and before you go on vacation!

Beachfront Snorkeling's Mission

Beachfront Snorkeling's mission is to become the starting point for snorkeling information on the web.  Beachfront Snorkeling will be the place that snorkelers go to find information about snorkeling, snorkeling locations and snorkeling equipment. Beachfront Snorkeling will promote snorkeling on the internet.

What Others Are Saying About Beachfront Snorkeling

Dan Volker publisher of the South Florida Dive Journal said in a posting on the newsgroup rec.scuba:

"... I think this type of site needs more attention...The big problem in snorkeling is finding good sites, that provide optimal experiences for new or frequent snorkelers. to this end, I hope this new web page does well. If I ever get rich and have lots of spare time, I'll help this cause with a big issue on it with the South Florida Dive Journal..."

Software

SnorkelLogFW, our Snorkeling Logbook software is here and ready for download!    Eventually the software will let you:

large bullet Upload your own snorkeling locations for posting to the site.
large bullet Allow you to transfer the information between your Palm or Pocket PC and your computer

Did I mention it was free?  Another version of the software will also be developed which will include a photo log and other options.  The enhanced version will have a small registration fee.

More Snorkeling Sites

I finally figured out how to make the snorkeling sites that others post here visible. Check out the Snorkeling Sites link. It's still kind of rough but we'll get that ironed our shortly.

We're Getting a New Look!

Beachfront Snorkeling is finally figured out MySQL and PHP and is getting the Snorkeling Sites database up and running so that when you add a snorkeling site it will be instantly available. While we're doing that we're also updating the site so it has more of a 21st century look. We've been stuck in the 90s for too long. Check it out. The current plan is to have everything updated and replaced by March.

New Snorkeling Newsgroup Now Open

You can ask questions, post snorkeling sites or give advice at alt.sport.snorkeling.

If you've visited here before you may have noticed that the guestbook is no longer available. It went away as a result of the conversion from FrontPage and the fact that I was uncomfortable with posting email addresses that could result in Beachfront Snorkeling visitors getting spammed.

Last year I submitted a proposal to create a snorkeling newsgroup, alt.sport.snorkeling. The proposal got "hijacked" and has only now become available. I your ISP hasn't already made it available on their news server you'll have to ask them to add it. This should be a great source of snorkeling sites for all of us so I hope it becomes a big success. I'll add any snorkeling sites posted there to the snorkeling site page. Please support this effort by requesting that your ISP add it to their server.

Digital Cameras

Sea Life has a new digital underwater camera out soon - SL121 Reefmaster DC200.  I'm saved up for it and got it in March.  It's a nice camera but the housing blocks the viewfinder.  The interesting thing is that I thought a digital camera would take pictures that didn't have the bluish tint to them - they be more true to what you actually saw.  Not true.  The pictures I took on my last trip to Singer Island are as blue as the ones I took with the disposables.  It was sure nice to see them right away on the computer though.

Lucky You

Are you lucky enough to actually live somewhere that you can go snorkeling any time you want?  Send me an email and tell me about it and I'll feature it here.

Snorkeling Guide

So here we go.  I've been snorkeling in the Bahamas, Florida and California.  The Snorkeling Sites link includes pictures and descriptions of some of those experiences.  Most importantly, you'll also find out about snorkeling sites I found on my own that aren't in any of the guides as well as ones posted by visitors to the site. Right now, I only have information about snorkeling in Florida.  Stay tuned for updates on the News page.
